CBC Radio One Interviews Sam Omidi of Brave Media
CBC Interviews Sam Omidi of Brave Media
May 13, 2009: CBC Radio One interviewed President of Brave Media Inc. today with regards to social media and the BC elections. The main topic of question was how can the province use social media to increase the number of voters for the BC elections.
CBC Radio One pointed out that although candidates for the BC election used social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter the turn out of voters was quite disappointing at an all time low of 50% (of eligible voters). Sam’s response to this matter was that the social media tools were not used to their full potential and developing the right strategies is the exact focus of Brave Media Internet Marketing when talking with our clients.
For instance, many candidates simply asked voters to vote for them without bringing to light the hot-topics that would really ignite voters to get out to the polls. For example, if a candidate had used Facebook and Twitter to talk about how he plans to combat recession in BC and how this will affect middle-class workers then social media would be used the way it is supposed to be used – to open dialogue in a social matter. (To get an idea of how Brave Media is using Twitter check out http://twitter.com/bravemedia & http://twitter.com/samomidi).
Furthermore, Sam talked about tying in all the social media tools together to make the most impact. It shouldn’t be just about one social media tool, but rather using a blog to bring together in all aspects of Twitter, Youtube and Facebook. Having a blog will allow visitors to get a full experience and leave comments about topics they are passionate about and this is important because anyone can post a comment, but not everyone has a Twitter or Facebook account.
