Facebook Marketing and Brands
It’s always important to recognize the effectiveness of brands on social networks and how people interact with them. As such we have found a report by Razorfish on 1,000 “connected” consumers and their online behavior. The statistics may be surprising to a lot of business owners who are not convinced that social networks are an effective means for marketing their brand.
The first stat focuses on Facebook & Twitter whereby 40% of respondents “friended” brands on Facebook, while 25% followed brands on Twitter. This is quite an impressive figure simply because any marketing message deal/promotion you want to get out can be instantly sent out to your fans and followers. Compare this to traditional media like news, radio and tv where the costs are astronomical and take a huge amount of time and we believe you’ll see a good reason why social media marketing is just on a different level.
The great thing about the next stat reveals that about 44% of these fans and followers are looking for exclusive deals and offers. In other words, they are expecting to get a little something extra that others walking into a retail store or passing through the website don’t get. Marketing teams should be aware of this and incorporate a strategy into every offering.
Take this is an example…if you are going to have a special xmas promotion of 25% off your spa service, tell your fans to mention Facebook and they’ll get an extra coupon for a free gift with their following appointment. You’re getting them in the door and then you’re giving them extra incentive to come back again. Can you see how this kind of marketing can grow your sales exponentially? The best part of it is that you are gaining loyal fans of your services and making them feel very appreciated.
The following graph below reveals that social networking is also a great way to keep communication lines with your current customers and provide them with relevant information…

Another surprising statistic is where these connected consumers get their news from. While 80% still access traditional news websites 33% are now getting their news from Facebook and 20% from Twitter. This greatly re-enforces the importance of brands having a presence on the two big social networks.
